Armor cases created a case which presented the task of housing the Soundcraft Si impact digital mixing console in a travel case. The mixer has a max height of 160mm, a width of 750mm and a depth of 500mm, weighing 20kg. the case would need to house this unit and allow ease of access to the mixer as well as provide adequate safety of the precious equipment. The features of this case as well as the hardware use to build it will be presented.  Â
What are the Features?
Split lids and gas struts
SC-SIIMP-LC CASE is designed to protect the Soundcraft Si impact digital mixing console during transportation. The materials of the case selected include a durable exterior, with ball corners with tough steel to absorb impact during any transportation procedure and a variety of foam lining interior to protect the delicate console inside. Swivel casters wheels are used to allow it to be easily moved, including brakes to stop its movement.

The mixer mounting unit is made of 18mm and 9mm plywood panels, which secures the console on the case. It also allows the user to use the mixer without having to remove it from the case. Two gas struts make this possible using the pressure contained within them help to lift the console and support it in its upright position with a capacity of 25kg, which is more than the weight of the mixer.
This part also has a doghouse unit to allow access to the 40 ports at the back of the mixer for convenience. The compartment is easily opened by pressing the two push locks which unlock the top panel, allowing the respective pieces to be folded out through the hinges. This mount also has side vents allowing ventilation of the console in less exposed parts.

Also, a Split lid system allows the Soundcraft Si impact to be stored in the case vertically and opened without having remove the console, allowing ease of use and accessibility.Â
Of course, these are secured with latched when closed and handles are added to allow the user to easily open the case as well as any pulling motion. The asymmetry of the console also allows the front doors to fit a storage unit.Â

The design resulted in a manufactured case that allows the console to be lifted up and used, without having to remove the console from the case. The operation would involve just removing the top lid, opening the split doors and then simply lifting the console up. This is a result of the features mentioned above including the two gas struts which secures the console in its upright position and the split lid. This case has met the specifications of the customer’s order and is ready for use.
